496  HDR Imaging / News (read only) / FDRTools 1.4 released on: September 04, 2005, 02:54:46 PM
The 1.4 release is dedicated to full support of digital camera raw formats. FDRTools now reads the raw images of nearly all camera models there are.

New Features:
1. Support for nearly all proprietary digital camera raw formats. FDRTools uses 'dcraw' by Dave Coffin to decode and develop the raw images. You can find the complete list of supported camera models on his web pages.
2. FDRExposer now allows to write HDR images in all supported file formats, not only RGBE and OpenEXR. To enable this the semantics of the command line parameter 'dynrange' has been modified. It is now used to switch tone mapping on and off. For details see the FDRExposer parameter description.
3. Following 2 Tiff16 has been added to the list of supported HDR output formats in FDRGui.

Solved Issues:
- within the 'Expose' funcitonality a manual modification of the 'LDR Output' file name could cause an exception.
497  HDR Imaging / News (read only) / FDRTools 1.4beta2 on: August 31, 2005, 09:30:26 AM
This release is dedicated to full support of digital camera's raw formats. FDRTools now reads the raw images of nearly all camera models there are.

The second beta release solves the following issues:
- the maximum response factors for parameter set 'generic dcraw' have been scaled down to 0.4.  This avoids that overexposed areas are used for blending.
- the preview of images has been switched off because it is currently slow and inefficient.

This is a beta release. There will probably be some minor changes before the final release. Please test it intensively and give me feedback.

499  HDR Imaging / News (read only) / FDRTools 1.3 released on: August 22, 2005, 02:34:54 PM
FDRTools 1.3 first of all improves image quality and brings usability improvements as well. A few issues mainly related to image blending and compression parameters have been solved also.

New features:
1. The most important new feature is a great improvement of the image quality delivered by FDRCompressor. I think it is not an exaggeration to say that the tone mapping performed by FDRCompressor is "state of the art".
2. The second important new feature is the compression preview in FDRGui. It is now possible to open the preview window for the compressed image and thus to see the resulting image in original size.

Solved issues:
- the 'Expose' functionality in FDRGui has been improved, i.e. the interface to the command line tools. It is now more logical and easier to use.
- the exposure transition functionality was not working as expected.
- after a manual change to an image exposure value the separation sliders were not properly updated.
- the LDR Mapping bracketing funtionality did not work with even number of images.
- the compression presettings in the Navigator and in the Preferences were changed to improve automatic tone mapping results.
- the GUI had problems with responseivness during the (time-consuming) compression task.
500  HDR Imaging / Enhancement Suggestions (read only) / Re: CR2 support on: August 16, 2005, 03:43:16 PM

We are looking for software that will ease the process of compiling HDR images from fisheye pano sequences. Just finding HDR software that reads RAW seems to be difficult! Your software looks really interesting, but it doesn't support the RAW format from our new Canon DSLR. Any plans on adding CR2 to your list of supported formats?

Yes, definitely! Another customer asked for the same format and I'm going to do it in the next coming version. From 1.4 on FDRTools will read all formats that 'dcraw' reads, hence virtually any RAW image from any camera there is.

This is the third beta release of FDRTools 1.3. With it a few issues mainly related to image blending and compression parameters have been solved.

The solved issues In more detail:
- the exposure transition functionality was not working as expected.
- after a manual change to an image exposure value the separation sliders were not properly updated.
- the LDR Mapping bracketing funtionality did not work with even number of images.
- the compression presettings in the Navigator and in the Preferences were changed to improve automatic tone mapping results.

Version 1.3 of FDRTools will bring two important new features as well as some usability improvements and bugfixes:

I've improved the 'Expose' functionality in FDRGui, i.e. the interface to the command line tools. It is now more logical and easier to use.

A few bugs have also been found and fixed.

This is the second beta release. There will probably be some minor changes before the final release will appear. Please test it intensively and give me feedback.
503  HDR Imaging / News (read only) / 'Creating Profiles' Tutorial available on: October 19, 2004, 02:01:44 PM
There is a new tutorial available demonstrating how to create a device profile. This task has become easy now because it is supported by FDRGui. All material needed for the tutorial is contained within the FDRGui download.
504  HDR Imaging / News (read only) / FDRTools 1.2 released on: October 19, 2004, 01:51:23 PM
FDRTools 1.2 is available. The main progress is the ability to create device profiles with FDRGui. I was also successful in eliminating a few nasty bugs.

Hello Sergio,

Quote
what for an effect has the exposure setting in the navigator ?
i can't see any changes in the output files ?

The Navigator can be seen as a HDR viewer. Real HDR scenes have a dynamic range that is far beyond what can be displayed on a CRT monitor. Therefore the Navigator has an 'Exposure' regulator that lets you navigate the scene dynamic range in steps. But this is only for viewing purpose. The Exposure setting has no effect on the output image.

507  HDR Imaging / News (read only) / 'First Steps' Tutorial available on: June 28, 2004, 10:59:43 AM
I've set up an introductory tutorial for FDRTools . By following the step by step example you get familiar with basic concepts behind the software. All material needed for the tutorial is contained within the FDRGui download.
508  HDR Imaging / News (read only) / FDRTools 1.1 on: June 18, 2004, 10:39:30 AM
Now that FDRCompressor is there I have assembled the complete set of tools, comprising  Gui, Profiler, Exposer and Compressor into one package called FDRTools.

FDRTools forms a complete solution to the problem "How to bring a high dynamic range scene to monitor or paper?".

FDRTools takes your source images, extracts the best out of them and generates a result with superb contrast and vivid colors but without shadow noise or blown out highlights.

FDRTools employs powerful and fast algorithms delivering best possible image quality.

FDRTools is easy to use yet can be fully controlled with a few parameters.

509  HDR Imaging / News (read only) / FDRCompressor, FDRExposer and FDRGui 1.1 on: June 18, 2004, 09:12:03 AM
I'm proud to announce the advent of my new HDR imaging tool FDRCompressor!
FDRCompressor is the missing building block in a solution to the problem "How to bring high dynamic range scenes to display or paper?".
FDRCompressor is a command line tool that takes a HDR image and gives back a high quality LDR image that shows superb contrast and vivid colours. Using FDRCompressor is easy via FDRGui. Try and see for yourself!

At the same time I have updated FDRExposer to version 1.1.

At the same time I have updated FDRGui. v1.1 now supports FDRCompressor . FDRGui is available under http://www.fdrtools.com/fdrgui/fdrgui_e.php.
510  HDR Imaging / News (read only) / FDRExposer 1.0 on: February 16, 2004, 02:46:51 PM
The first major release brings some functional improvements. This affects the "anchor" image functionality as well as some new functionality related to image data separation, see the "separation" and "transition" switches. For details, have a look at

http://www.andreas-schoemann.de/fdrtools/fdrexposer/fdrexposer_e.php

However, probably the most important change concerns the distribution conditions. FDRExposer is no longer available as downloadable trial version. Using FDRExposer is now bound to registration. The opportunity to test the FDRExposer functionality is now granted by the freely usable FDRGui.  FDRGui can do everything FDRExposer can, with one exception: it can't save images.
